Become a Snow Angel!

Could you be our next Snow Angel? Or do you know one?

Through the Snow Angels Program, volunteers clear snow from the walkways of some of Hamilton’s most vulnerable residents. After a minimum of a 3cm snowfall, volunteers are asked to shovel the client’s sidewalk, walkway from the entrance door to the sidewalk and the windrow – the snow left behind at the end of the driveway after the plow has cleared the road. This selfless support allows these residents safe passage for themselves and their caregivers.

All matched new volunteers are provided with warm winter wear – a hat, gloves and socks – courtesy of Mark’s, and all are invited to an appreciation event in the spring. High school students can take advantage of this opportunity to accumulate community service hours for graduation.

Volunteers are required to:

• Clear snow from the sidewalk and provide an accessible path from their door to the sidewalk;
• Clear the windrow – the pile of snow left behind at the foot of the driveway after the snow plow clears the road;
• Clear the snow within 24 hours of a minimum 3cm snowfall.

Becoming a Snow Angel is a great way for families and friends to spend time together and for high school students to obtain some community service hours. Consider volunteering as a pair, group or team which allows for more flexibility while still maintaining a strong level of client support. Volunteers must be 14 or older, reliable and physically able to participate in snow removal.

New Snow Angel volunteers will receive winter wear courtesy of Mark’s including a warm winter hat, gloves and thermal socks. Matched Snow Angel volunteers will be invited to a volunteer appreciation event in the spring as our way of saying “thanks!”. Our Snow Angel clients are incredibly grateful for your support as it allows them and their visitors safe passage to and from their homes.
