Hamilton, ON L8P 4K3

Hamilton rock musician Tom Wilson, author of the bestselling memoir Beautiful Scars, which explores his late-in-life discovery of his Indigenous ancestry, will be among the 12 presenters at the 6th annual 6-Minute Memoir “storytelling for a cause” event being held at the First Unitarian Church on Friday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. (Doors open at 7p.m.)

Wilson, the musician behind Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and Junkhouse, won’t be the only singer telling a tale on the evening’s theme of “Inheritance.” Singer/songwriter Jude Johnson and singer Lyla Miklos, will also take to the stage. They will be joined by several area writers, including author Miranda Hill, Hamilton Spectator columnist Jeff Mahoney, blogger Suzanne ...Foreman, playwrights Jennifer Walton and Marianne Daly as well as former Hamilton Spectator publisher Dana Robbins.

The evening will also feature tales told by members of Hamilton First, including Kathy Brown, Martin Dooley and Catherine Schuler. The 6-Minute Memoir is organized and hosted by Hamilton journalist Anne Bokma.

Each presenter is given the challenge of telling a compelling tale within a strict six-minute time limit.

Now in its 6th year, the 6-Minute Memoir is a popular storytelling event that’s held annually at the First Unitarian Church of Hamilton. A smaller bimonthly event takes place at The Staircase Theatre on Dundurn St. N.

Admission is FREE and a cash bar will be available. There will be a voluntary freewill offering with proceeds split between The Longer Table, an initiative of the Refugee Sponsorship Committee of the Niagara Diocese of Hamilton, and First Unitarian Church of Hamilton.
