After a one-year hiatus, the HamilTEN Theatre Festival is back and bigger than ever.
Established in 2012, the HamilTEN Theatre Festival is Hamilton's premier festival of 10-minute plays by local playwrights from the Greater Hamilton community. This year’s festival features 18 plays written and directed by 18 playwrights which will be performed at Hamilton’s Staircase Cafe Theatre April 27, 28 & 29, 2018.
“This year we received almost double the amount of script submissions than we have in previous festivals,” says HamilTEN Founding Artistic Director, Darren Stewart-Jones. “To me, that signifies that Hamilton artists want and need their voices to be heard.”
In addition to a larger playbill, the HamilTEN Theatre Festival has also welcomed local playwright Carly Popenko as its new Festival Director.
“I am absolutely thrilled to take the reins of HamilTEN 2018,” says Popenko. “It’s so important to give local artists an accessible platform to share their work. What I love so much about the HamilTEN Theatre Festival is that it really challenges playwrights of all levels to create something unique in a fun and fast-paced format.”
Whether audiences enjoy comedy, drama, or something in between, the 18 diverse plays in this year’s festival are sure to feature something for everyone. Attend one of the HamilTEN performance blocks (RED, BLUE, or GREEN) or attend all three to get the entire HamilTEN Theatre Festival experience.
The 2018 HamilTEN Theatre Festival begins Friday April 27, 2018 at 7pm and runs until Sunday April 29, 2018 at 4pm at the Staircase Cafe Theatre (27 Dundurn Street North, Hamilton, ON L8R 3C9). Tickets are $10 per show and are available at the door by cash only or in advance online at https://hamiltenfestival.com.
