Princess Point Environmental Restoration

***  Update: The controlled burn will be taking place on Thursday April 13 ***

Royal Botanical Gardens is preparing for a controlled burn at Princess Point in the Cootes Paradise Nature Sanctuary early this spring with the assistance of provincial experts. Controlled burns are an important management activity in the restoration and maintenance of tallgrass prairie and oak savannah habitats, now a very rare habitat in Ontario. Burning stimulates the growth of native prairie and savannah plants while supressing undesirable plants such as non-native invasive species.

Favourable weather conditions will determine the timing of the burn, tied to the natural drying of the site and winds blowing away from the residential area. RBG will announce the exact date of the burn once it has been accurately forecasted and also post the information through social media. For more information on Princess Point and the burn click here.
